It is very important for someone to have the right attitude and possess certain characteristics in order for him / her to become successful in any endeavor. That is especially important when that person is starting a new business. Not everyone is cut out to be an entrepreneur. What are the characteristics of an entrepreneur?
First of all in order to be clear, what is an entrepreneur? According to definition, an entrepreneur is “a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, esp. a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk”. There are many characteristics which an entrepreneur should have. Although there are many more, below are few which I believe to be vital to meeting the definition above.
1. Intelligent and creative - In the course of the business day, there are going to be a certain number of problems which will have to be overcome in order to reach the goal, and an entrepreneur can always figure out a creative solution to every problem.
Decisive - Because of the fast pace of society and the amount of information that everyone has access to, it can become quite overwhelming to make quick business decisions. However, it is very important that the entrepreneur can do that without getting mired in all of the unimportant details.
3. Honest - I believe that this is essential, but not all entrepreneurs are honest because not all people are honest; however, it is important to be an honest businessman / woman and the willingness to meet all of the customers’ expectations to the best of his ability.
4. Risk taker - In order to be an entrepreneur, according to the definition, one has to be able to take on a certain amount of risk in order to pursue a desired level of success. That person needs to be able to make decisions under pressure where the outcome of those decisions are not always known.
5. Passion and determination - If someone is to become successful, he/she has to have the determination to get past any obstacle which may be encountered. An entrepreneur thinks 24/7 about how he/she is going to be successful, not whether he/she is going to be successful.
Above is only a few of the many characteristics which the average entrepreneur possesses. I believe that they are a few of the most important though. If someone possesses only the above, then I think that he/she has an excellent chance of becoming a successful entrepreneur.
